Sand Flies are one of the most hated insects after mosquitoes. These are small insects belonging to the fly family that breeds in the swampy regions. It is the female sand flies that suck the blood causing skin rashes in the bitten area. If they are itched they often cause infection that takes a long time to heal. But they do not cause any deadly disease those mosquitos’ causes. Yet it is important to take precautions from these annoying insect.

Using sand fly repellents is the best way to keep these pests away. Now chemical and natural based repellents are available in the market. The chemical based repellents are very effective in warding off the sand flies through their strong smell. Like mosquitoes sand flies are also a menace for the people. These are tiny pests with a humped back that breed on stagnant waters. That is why they are found near beaches, estuaries or lagoons. These pests might be very tiny in size but their single bite can cause severe discomfort for the people.

It is the female sand flies that feed on the blood. These pests come in one or two and attack their victim by encircling them. Their bites cause red swellings on the skin, which if scratched often causes infection that takes many days to heal. But no disease is caused due to their bites which happen in the case of mosquito bites.
