Our environment is infested with
various biting insects like wasps, sand flies, ticks, gnats, mosquitoes and
many more. Their one single bite can cause discomfort in the body, at times
affecting the daily activities. The sting of pests like gnats, sand flies or
ticks causes red swelling on the skin and if they are itched continuously can
lead to infections that take days to heal. On the other hand the bite of some
species of mosquitoes can be fatal as it may lead to diseases like Malaria,
Dengue or Encephalitis. That is the reason why it is very important to take
protection from these insects.
In order to fight the attacks of
these pests Insect Repellents are
used which are readily available in the market. It is basically a substance
that can be applied on skin, clothing or other areas which restricts the pests
from coming near the human beings. These products are manufactured in the form
of creams, mists, or lotions that form a layer over the skin or clothing and
their strong smell helps in keeping the insects away. These products are either
made from chemicals like DEET or Picaridin as well as extracts from the plants.
Though the chemical based
repellents are very effective in warding off the pests, at times they can
result in certain harmful side effects. This has resulted in the increasing demand
for the natural repellents that keeps the pests away as well as is safe to use
on the skin or clothing. Apart from these repellents now products are available
that operates electronically and repels or kills the insects through
electromagnetic or ultrasound waves.
