The Types of Insect Repellents Available Today



Our environment is infested with various biting insects like wasps, sand flies, ticks, gnats, mosquitoes and many more. Their one single bite can cause discomfort in the body, at times affecting the daily activities. The sting of pests like gnats, sand flies or ticks causes red swelling on the skin and if they are itched continuously can lead to infections that take days to heal. On the other hand the bite of some species of mosquitoes can be fatal as it may lead to diseases like Malaria, Dengue or Encephalitis. That is the reason why it is very important to take protection from these insects.

In order to fight the attacks of these pests Insect Repellents are used which are readily available in the market. It is basically a substance that can be applied on skin, clothing or other areas which restricts the pests from coming near the human beings. These products are manufactured in the form of creams, mists, or lotions that form a layer over the skin or clothing and their strong smell helps in keeping the insects away. These products are either made from chemicals like DEET or Picaridin as well as extracts from the plants. 


Though the chemical based repellents are very effective in warding off the pests, at times they can result in certain harmful side effects. This has resulted in the increasing demand for the natural repellents that keeps the pests away as well as is safe to use on the skin or clothing. Apart from these repellents now products are available that operates electronically and repels or kills the insects through electromagnetic or ultrasound waves.

Today with the availability of many mosquito insect repellents people are now able to keep themselves protected from the pests and enjoy the outdoor activities.
