Stay Protected from the Sand Fly Attacks

Australia and New Zealand is not only famous for flora and fauna but also for sand flies.  These tiny insects can easily disrupt one’s travel plans by their single bite. These pests from the fly family breed in beach areas, swamps, estuaries, and lagoons. They generally attack in groups by encircling their victims. Though their bites do not cause any deadly diseases like mosquitoes but they cause skin rashes and infections that many days to heal.

The sand flies attack the tourists more than the locals as they have formed immunity to their bites. So to avoid the sand fly bites tourist should use repellents. There are many Sandfly Repellents available in the market which is sold in form of creams or sprays. These repellents are formulated by both chemical and natural components. But it is always better to use the natural based products to avoid side effects. The natural sand fly repellents are made from essential oils like citronella, lemon eucalyptus, catnip, lavender, tea tree and many others. These components give off a pleasant smell that keeps off the insects from human’s vicinity.

There are other remedies to combat sand fly bites like applying vinegar on the affected area that help in neutralizing the toxins. Even deodorants and wines works wonders in healing the bites. Tourists are often suggested to wear light colored full covered clothes.  They are even asked to avoid beach areas during dawn and dusks.

So to enjoy an uninterrupted holiday in the Australian beaches one must use these remedies.
